KALIBO, Aklan – The suspected subgroup leader of slain drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr. and ranked No. 7 in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6’s list of drug personalities was arrested in this capital town.
Ricky Yap, 56, sold for P7,500 a gram of shabu to a PDEA operative around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday on Luis Barrios Street, Barangay Poblacion near a private hospital.
“Matinik siya…No. 7 sa priority list…Binigyan namin siya ng prayoridad sa tulong din ng ating kapulisan,” said PDEA’s Fil Tangeris.
Yap was a resident of Tangalan, Aklan. He turned himself in to the town’s police station last year after the Philippine National Police launched Oplan Double Barrel, the intensified campaign against drug trafficking. He claimed to be a drug user.
“Galing sa Iloilo at Capiz ang supply ni Yap,” said Tangeris.
Six more grams of shabu worth P35,000 were recovered from the suspect during a body search.
“When Odicta was still alive, he got his stocks from the drug lord,” according to PDEA deputy regional director Levi Ortiz.
Odicta was shot to death by still unidentified armed men in August 2016.
“We are now investigating who Yap’s new supplier is,” said Ortiz.
Yap supplied shabu to Boracay Island, Aklan, Antique and Capiz provinces, he added.
Ortiz expressed confidence that Yap’s arrest would “paralyze drug distribution especially in Boracay Island.”
Yap ran for a seat in Tangalan’s Sangguniang Bayan last May 2016 elections but lost.
He faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
