CIGNAL HD Spikers star Jovelyn Gonzaga said she does not regret her decision to ask for an honorable dismissal from the Philippine Army as she won another Philippine Superliga championship.
The Guimaras-native Gonzaga, the PSL Invitational Cup MVP, said she feels she made the right decision since she would be sidelined for a year due to mandatory training if she continued to be part of the Army.
“Sobra akong na-stress before ng Invitational Cup. Kailangan kong i-weigh mga bagay-bagay. Hindi ko lang kailangan i-consider yung isa kasi family ko ‘to, passion ko ‘to,” Gonzaga said.
“Passion ko talaga ang volleyball kaya hindi ko kayang mawala ng matagal sa sport na ito,” Gonzaga added. “Ang Army naman never naging hindrance sa players na ma-accomplish namin kung ano yung dreams namin.”
Gonzaga also said she is glad to be part of the HD Spikers’ first-ever PSL championship after becoming the league’s perennial whipping girls since the 2014 season.
“Isa sa key namin ay yung teamwork,” said Gonzaga. “Yung goal namin na kung paano namin tatapusin yung tournament with a championship nagawa namin so ang saya and fulfilled.”
“Sa totoo lang hindi ko inexpect yung (back-to-back MVP) kasi itong Cignal, for the past few years, hindi sila nagkakaroon ng place so mas nag-focus kami sa ipa-champion natin ‘to more than the individual awards,” she added.
After winning the franchise’s first ever title, Gonzaga promises that the HD Spikers will not stop chasing more championships as they now focus on preparing for the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference./PN
