KALIBO, Aklan – Candidates of the Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan and Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival King showed their talents before a crowd during a pre-pageant competition at Pastrana Park in this capital town last week.

The 16-year-old Elmarie Dewara of Barangay Odiong, Altavas, Aklan bested the other female candidates with her character impersonation performance of the evil fairy Laverna in the Barbie movie Fairytopia.

Dewara – a student of the Regional Science High School in Kalibo – placed first over the 21-year-old Eloisa Mitch Hormillosa who gave a spoken poetry performance and the 18-year-old Annicka Pauline Dela Cruz who showed off her belly dancing skills.

Hormillosa and Dela Cruz placed second and third, respectively.

The other Mutya candidates who also performed during the Dec. 27 talent competition were Louise Emerald Nadua, Clarynce Ada Concepcion, Angelica Marie Lim, Sheiney Jage Mationg, Janine Maglantay, Gracel Gilongos, Ina Donna Jean Pendon, Riechelle Macaraeg, Mila Mariella Simera, Buena Kristel Pelayo, Marijo Mariz Ureta, and Stephanie Palomata.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Pinamuk-an, New Washington, Aklan resident Ronald No, 18, who performed a Filipino courtship dance “Manang Biday,” landed in first place, beating the song performance of Icidor Kobe So and the live magic show performance of Frank Jared Rafailes.

Paolo Benedict Ibuyan performed a contemporary dance while Earl Jaztin Beboso showcased his drawing skills.

So, Rafailes, Ibuyan, and Beboso placed second, third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

The Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan coronation night will be on Jan. 12 at the ABL Sports and Cultural Center while the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival King coronation night, at Magsaysay Park on Jan. 15. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
