NEGROS Occidental — Police operatives from the Cadiz City Police Station (CCPS) recovered a sack of suspected smuggled cigarettes during a validation operation at San Eusebio Subdivision in Barangay Zone 2, Cadiz City, on February 11.
According to the CCPS, the operation was conducted at around 5:09 p.m. after authorities received a report from a concerned citizen about allegedly abandoned smuggled cigarettes in the area.
Upon verification, police discovered one sack containing 14 reams of assorted cigarette brands left by the roadside. The recovered items included six reams of Red Golden Dragon, four reams of TS American Blend, two reams of American Bison, and two reams of Modern cigarettes.
Authorities estimated the suggested retail value of the seized cigarettes at approximately P20,000.
The recovered items were referred and turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for proper disposition.
No suspects were identified or arrested in connection with the incident. Police said, as of press time, an investigation was ongoing to determine the source and ownership of the cigarettes./PN
