ILOILO City – The city government is gearing up for a surge of holiday crowds with the Calle Real Christmas Night Market running on December 5 to 7.
There will be expanded food offerings, improved facilities, and enhanced security to accommodate thousands of expected visitors.
Jay Treñas, executive assistant to the mayor and head of the Night Market Committee, announced during a press conference that 59 vendors and 99 stalls will take part in this year’s Christmas showcase.
“We will be adding more lights to brighten the surroundings and create a vibrant environment for everyone. Additionally, we’ll have more portalets available to accommodate our visitors,” he said.
The three-night event aims to highlight Ilonggo culture through local cuisine, traditional favorites, and live entertainment.
Visitors can expect a wide selection of food — from inasal and pancit molo to locally brewed kape — as part of the push to support home-grown businesses and boost the local economy.
Beyond food, buskers and bands will perform nightly to create a lively festive atmosphere. Treñas said performers will entertain crowds “from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. throughout the event’s three days.”
One of the highlights will be the Calle Real Videoke Star on Saturday, with Treñas inviting the public to enjoy or join the competition.
“We invite everyone who wants to watch or participate to join us from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.,” he said.
Treñas also assured that the implementing ordinance for the night market is “well-prepared” and that security measures are firmly in place. Law enforcement personnel will be deployed to keep the area safe for families and visitors.
To facilitate the setup, the city will enforce road closures along JM Basa Street from 5 p.m. to 12 midnight on all three nights, with detours arranged to ease traffic flow.
The city government is encouraging the public to take part in the festivities.
“We invite everyone to come together as we kick off the holiday season in Iloilo City,” Treñas said, emphasizing that the night market aims to bring the community together and create lasting holiday memories./PN
