BACOLOD Tay Tung High School hopes to defend its girls volleyball title in the 31st Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals starting on Aug. 31 in Cebu City.

With a different lineup, the team’s crown-retention bid will not be a walk in the park, assistant coach Biboy Calamba told Panay News.

Ibang lineup ito sa team namin last year since iyong iba lampas na sa age limit,” Calamba said Wednesday night. “But we are confident naman na palaban din itong mga batang ito at malaki din ang chance namin.”

Returning from last year’s championship roster are Alyssa Bertolano, Kiesha Bedonia, Katherine Shane Cortez, Charlene Tayapad, and Gwen Bañas.

Newcomers include Aurea Alvero, Anikha Cabasac, Sophie Cagalawan, Nicolei Galvan, Jermaine Joniega, Kathleen Kate Tan, and Elijah Ysulan.

Tay Tung was bracketed with Cebu City-based high schools Abellana National High School, Mary Help of Christians and Cebu Eastern College.

“The coaches reminded the players na hindi namin pwedeng maliitin itong mga kagrupo namin dahil kilala rin namang mga palaban ang Cebu teams so we expect them to give their 100 percent,” Calamba said.

Aside from volleyball, Tay Tung also sent representatives in track and field, basketball, chess, badminton, scrabble, and gymnastics./PN
