CAPIZ – The “Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat” caravan, a flagship initiative of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., brought an array of free services and livelihood assistance to the people of Capiz on September 13, highlighting the government’s efforts to promote agricultural development and community welfare.
In Pontevedra, Mayor Henry Tumlos expressed his gratitude after his municipality received support through the swine fattening project.
“In the province of Capiz, we are proud to be one of the beneficiaries of this valuable project, which includes 208 pigs with a total investment of P5.2 million,” he said.
The project, valued at P6.2 million in total assistance, is expected to boost food security, support small-scale farmers, and stimulate local economic activity.
“This assistance is a lifeline for our farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs. It empowers them to improve their livelihoods and contribute more significantly to our local economy,” Tumlos added, as he thanked President Marcos for prioritizing the needs of Capisnons.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) also rolled out several programs in Tapaz to revitalize local livelihoods. Among the beneficiaries was John Gabriel, president of the Tapaz Native Chicken Raisers Association, which received a Chicken Multiplier Farm worth P3.8 million under the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) Program.
“This will greatly benefit our members through additional income and will even attract prospective members to our association,” Gabriel said. The group currently has 74 members who are expected to benefit from the project.
The DA likewise distributed 300 sacks of rice under the “Beteng Bigas Meron Na!” (BBM Na) program, providing nourishment to 1,500 Capiz residents. In addition, 400 farmers received P2.8 million in financial assistance through the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance Program, while 143 farmers were granted indemnity checks by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
These interventions underscore the government’s commitment to supporting agriculture, addressing food insecurity, and empowering local communities. As the caravan continues to reach underserved areas, Capisnons remain hopeful that such initiatives will sustain resilience, uplift livelihoods, and drive inclusive growth in the province./PN
