BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental provincial government and the Philippine Army reviewed the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) for former rebels.

Around 40 former rebels across the province benefiting from the program attended the assessment at the capitol on Friday.

The CLIP seeks to provide former rebels psychosocial and socioeconomic security and guide them to become productive members of society.

A participative survey and discussions among former rebels were held during the review, said Major General Jon Aying, commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.

The results will determine the program’s impact, effectiveness and sustainability, Aying said.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Lina Sanogal gave an orientation on capitol’s programs and projects designed to benefit the former rebels, help the community and protect the environment.

Sanogal was also the action officer of the Provincial Peace Integration and Development Unit.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. appreciated the former rebels’ participation.

“The provincial government is always here for you, ready to help you,” the governor told them.

He also urged them to send their children to school; the educated have more opportunities.

After the review, the participants received food packs, canned goods, water containers, and other household items.

The CLIP was spearheaded by the Interior department as part of the government’s peace and development efforts.

It was being carried out in partnership with local government units, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and civil society organizations. (PNA)
