DUMAGUETE City – Rep. Manuel Sagarbarria (2nd District, Negros Oriental) has always been against the death penalty.
Sagarbarria reiterated this on Friday amid continued debates in the House of Representatives on the proposed reimposition of the capital punishment.
The Philippines’ judicial system is not and can never be perfect, the congressman stressed.
Moreover, Sagarbarria said he couldn’t conscientiously affix his signature to a measure favoring the death penalty while standing on top of the tomb of his parents.
He stressed he could not run counter to his faith as a Catholic no matter how the affirmative side would “repackage” the proposed bill.
Only God, “the giver of life, can take it back,” Sagarbarria said. (PNA)
