ROXAS City – Voluntary bloodletting activities in 2017 made Capiz the top performing province in Region 6 in terms of blood donation.
This was disclosed by blood program coordinator Dr. May Ann Sta. Lucia of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 during the 7th Annual Provincial Sandugo and Blood Olympics Awarding Ceremony in this capital city.
Capiz bloodletting activities last year collected a total of 11,315 blood units.
“It’s a privilege to be here in the number one performing province in the whole region at 1.44 percent, exceeding a target of one percent of the total population in 2017,” said Sta. Lucia.
She added that 14 out of 17 local government units in Capiz – or at least 82 percent – have reached their respective blood unit targets in 2017, based on DOH and Philippine Red Cross records.
Capiz’s blood collection record was made through the collaboration of the provincial government, Red Cross Capiz Chapter and the DOH.
Barangay councils, schools, religious and socio-civic groups, media entities, and other national government agencies also led 244 mass blood donations in the province last year.
The awarding recognized all the bloodletting organizers and outstanding blood donors as “blood champions” and “life-savers.” (With a report from PIA/PN)
