ROXAS City – A 3-year-old boy from President Roxas, Capiz accidentally shot himself while playing with his father’s gun, police said.
The boy from Barangay Manoling was taken to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital. The doctor said the boy was already in a stable condition.
His mother, 28-year-old Leny Garcia, told the police she was surprised to find her son toying with a .38 revolver on Wednesday.
She tried to snatch it but the firearm suddenly went off, she said.
The bullet hit the boy’s face and exited to the right side of his neck, said the police.
The President Roxas Emergency Response Team brought the boy to the hospital.
The boy’s father owned the revolver, police investigation showed.
Rolando Garcia, 52, was the chief of their barangay’s civilian volunteers’ organization.
Rolando said he left his firearm on their bed without expecting his toddler to enter their bedroom and grab it.
The father was facing more trouble – his gun did not have a license.
A charge for alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm – a violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act – will be filed against him./PN
