CAPIZ – With nationalism echoing in the hearts of Capisnons, the province of Capiz marked the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence with a solemn and symbolic ceremony in front of the provincial capitol yesterday, June 12.
The commemoration, led by the provincial government under Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, brought together provincial officials and various community sectors in a unified celebration of the nation’s hard-won freedom.
The event began with the entrance of colors and flag-raising ceremony, led by the Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPPO), followed by a wreath-laying ceremony honoring the sacrifices of Filipino heroes.
Among those who paid tribute were Vice Gov. James “Mitang” Magbanua, Provincial Board members, Roxas City’s Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, department heads from provincial and city offices, and other dignitaries.
Also participating in the ceremony were representatives from national government agencies, local schools, the Knights of Columbus, Interesting Masonic Lodge No. 55, and members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, among other civic organizations.
In a poignant tribute, a 21-gun salute was performed by the 12th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, symbolizing the province’s respect and honor for the heroes who laid down their lives for the country’s independence.
Atty. Stephen Alquiza, Capiz’s Local Youth Development Officer, was also recognized during the program for his contributions to youth empowerment and civic engagement.
The ceremony concluded with the release of doves, a symbolic gesture representing freedom, peace, and hope for future generations.
This year’s celebration reinforced Capiz’s unwavering commitment to the ideals of bravery, nationalism, and unity — values that continue to inspire generations, 127 years after the nation declared its independence in 1898./PN
