BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Government will extend P2 million in financial assistance to the local government of Bogo City, Cebu, which was hit by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the city government is now processing the release of the check to immediately turn it over to Bogo City.
He also shared that several residents of Bacolod have expressed their intention to travel to Cebu to personally extend help to the quake victims.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has also sent the One Negros Response Team to Cebu to aid communities affected by the earthquake, with a primary focus on Bogo City.
Under the directive of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, the team was fully equipped and supported by the provincial government to ensure timely and effective relief operations.
The deployment includes two water tankers, two mobile water filtration units, an ambulance, a rescue truck, two utility vehicles, and other essential equipment for relief and rescue missions.
Gov. Lacson, Vice Gov. Jose Benito Alonso, and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan expressed their gratitude and commendation to the participating local government units (LGUs) for joining the One Negros Response Team.
These include the cities of San Carlos, Sipalay, Silay, Sagay, Cadiz, Talisay, Escalante, and Victorias, as well as the Municipality of Toboso.
In a related development, the City Government of Kabankalan turned over P300,000 in financial assistance to Barangay 27, Bacolod City, on October 7, for residents affected by a fire last month.
The blaze left more than 900 residents, or about 250 families, homeless./PN
