ROXAS City – The containerized test laboratory for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) of Capiz passed the proficiency test conducted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine – Department of Health (RITM-DOH).
The Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital – Outpatient Department Molecular Laboratory for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test got a perfect score of 100 percent.
The turn-around-time of the test – the length of waiting for test result to come out – was one day only.
RITM-DOH checked the laboratory’s capabilities on Nucleic Acid Extraction, PCR Mastermix Preparation, Real Time RT-PCR, Interpretation of RT-PCR results, and RT-PCT results reporting.
The proficiency test was conducted on Dec. 5.
The laboratory’s license to operate is expected to be issued in a few days.
Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras said the laboratory will help the province combat COVID-19. Results of swab tests can be released immediately – a big help especially in averting local COVID-19 transmission.
Once operational, services of the laboratory will be free for Capiznons except for private companies or individuals who need to have an RT-PCR test such as for job applications./PN
