CAPIZ — Children aged 6 months to 59 months in Dumarao, Capiz received free measles and rubella vaccinations as part of the provincial government’s continuing efforts to protect young children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
The vaccination drive, held on August 14, 2026, was led by the Provincial Government of Capiz under Gov. Fredeniil H. Castro in coordination with the Provincial Health Office.
The activity formed part of the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA), which aims to provide vital vaccines to thousands of young children across the province.
The campaign is being implemented not only in Dumarao but also in the municipality’s 33 barangays, with the provincial government seeking to expand access to vaccination services in communities throughout Capiz.
Measles and rubella remain serious public health concerns that can result in complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis and, in severe cases, death.
Parents in Dumarao welcomed the vaccination drive, particularly those who previously had to travel to urban centers to have their children vaccinated.
Bringing vaccination services directly to communities has helped reduce transportation and accessibility barriers and encouraged more families to avail themselves of essential health services.
The provincial government said the vaccination campaign is part of its regular health programs aimed at strengthening community-based health services and improving public health responsiveness.
Barangay health workers (BHWs) and personnel of the Provincial Health Office also played a key role in the activity by educating parents on the importance of immunization and assisting in the vaccination campaign.
Through the MRSIA, the provincial government seeks to provide immediate protection to children while strengthening long-term efforts to build healthier communities across Capiz./PN
