BACOLOD City — The Provincial Local Price Coordinating Council (PLPCC) of Negros Occidental has recommended suggested minimum buying and retail prices for selected swine commodities as the province continues to address market disruptions caused by African Swine Fever (ASF).
The recommendation is contained in Resolution No. 1, Series of 2026, signed by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, chairperson of the PLPCC.
The resolution aims to provide temporary market guidance amid disruptions in the production, movement, supply and marketing of live hogs and pork products resulting from the continuing impact of ASF.
Under the resolution, the PLPCC recommended the following suggested minimum price levels:
*Live hogs (finisher): P165 per kilogram
*Live hogs (starter): P200 per kilogram
*Culled sows: P100 per kilogram
*Piglets: P2,700 per head
*Hog carcasses: P200 per kilogram
*Pork: P270 per kilogram
The council said the recommended prices were determined through consultations and price monitoring conducted by concerned provincial offices, PLPCC member agencies and other stakeholders.
The assessment considered prevailing market conditions, production costs, supply and demand, transportation and operating expenses, and the continuing impact of ASF on the local swine industry.
The PLPCC noted that the swine industry is an important component of Negros Occidental’s agricultural sector, supporting the livelihoods of hog raisers, livestock traders, meat vendors, slaughterhouse operators and other workers involved in the production, processing and distribution of pork products.
It also recognized that ASF-related disruptions have significantly affected the supply and movement of hogs and pork, resulting in changing market conditions that could place both producers and consumers at a disadvantage.
The suggested price levels are intended to serve as a minimum price reference for hog raisers, livestock buyers, traders, slaughterhouse operators, meat vendors, market stall operators, supermarkets, groceries and other entities involved in the buying, selling, processing and distribution of swine commodities in the province.
The resolution directs concerned provincial government offices, in coordination with appropriate national government agencies and the province’s component cities and municipalities, to continue monitoring the prices, supply and movement of swine commodities.
The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Provincial Agriculture Office and other PLPCC member agencies are also tasked to provide updated market information, including prevailing farmgate, wholesale and retail prices, supply conditions and production costs.
The council may modify, adjust, suspend or discontinue any of the suggested price levels depending on prevailing market conditions and recommendations from concerned agencies.
Local government units and appropriate government agencies are likewise encouraged to intensify information dissemination and market monitoring to ensure that hog raisers, traders, meat vendors, consumers and other stakeholders are properly informed of the suggested prices and the prevailing market situation.
The resolution cited Republic Act No. 7581, or the Price Act, which seeks to ensure the availability of basic necessities and prime commodities at reasonable prices while providing a fair return on investment to legitimate businesses.
