CAPIZ – The provincial government, through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), spearheaded a Peer Educators’ Leadership Training from August 12 to 14 in Dao town, aimed at empowering Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials with vital knowledge on adolescent health and development.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in interactive sessions that tackled a wide range of topics. These included understanding and appreciating their bodies and emotions to foster body positivity and emotional intelligence, as well as learning strategies to prevent teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through effective communication on sexual health.
The training also emphasized building self-esteem and embracing one’s identity with confidence, cultivating healthy relationships with family, peers, and partners, and making informed choices on nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being for a balanced lifestyle.
In addition, participants were guided on promoting respect, responsibility, and gender sensitivity both online and offline, honing facilitation and peer support skills to lead discussions in their communities, and encouraging environmental stewardship to promote care for their surroundings.
The initiative was made possible through the partnership of the Municipality of Dao, Dao Primary Care Facility, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, and municipal population officers, with training sessions facilitated by the Population Management Section of the CPHO.
