CAPIZ — The Provincial Government of Capiz, led by Governor Fredenil H. Castro, officially launched the Capiztahan 2026 celebrations on February 21 with the presentation of candidates for Hangaway and Lin-ay sang Capiz 2026.
The kick-off ceremony, held at the Robinsons Roxas Activity Area, marked the start of the province’s month-long cultural festivities.
A total of 31 candidates were introduced — 15 vying for the Hangaway title and 16 competing for Lin-ay sang Capiz — representing 15 municipalities and the City of Roxas.
Each candidate embodies the core values of Kusog (strength), Kaiisog (bravery), Kinaadman (wisdom), Kaambongan (prosperity), and Kagay-on (beauty), which reflect the heritage and identity of the Capisnon people. Organizers said the pageant highlights not only physical beauty but also the character, aspirations, and cultural pride of each representative.
The candidates will undergo a series of activities leading to the Grand Coronation Night, one of the major highlights of the annual Capiztahan Festival celebration.
Capiztahan has earned national recognition after being named Best Cultural Festival by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) Pearl Awards. The distinction underscores the province’s deep cultural roots, preserved traditions, and strong sense of unity.
