ANTIQUE — Fisheries livelihood projects worth P20 million were distributed to fisherfolk across the province of Antique through the initiative of Senator Loren Legarda.
The assistance package includes 90 fiberglass fishing boats, additional fishing vessels, eight patrol boats, and various fishing gear and equipment aimed at strengthening the local fishing industry.
The initiative seeks to boost marine production while enhancing the safety and productivity of fisherfolk during their fishing operations at sea.
Present during the turnover ceremony were Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Director Remia Appari, Officer-in-Charge Provincial Fisheries Officer Rowena Langga, San Jose de Buenavista Vice Mayor Cris John Banusing II, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chair on Agriculture and Fisheries Fernando Corvera, Antique Congressman AA Legarda, Officer-in-Charge of the National Marine Fisheries Development Center Rhoda Bacordo, and other provincial government officials.
Officials said the program underscores the government’s continuing commitment to support coastal communities, improve livelihood opportunities, and promote sustainable fisheries development in Antique./PN
