CAPIZ – The provincial government, through its Provincial Health Office (PHO), has joined the nationwide observance of the 37th National Disaster Resilience Month, reinforcing efforts to strengthen community preparedness and disaster response.
Led by Dr. Alex T. Nolasco, the PHO, through its Health Care System Management Section, kicked off a series of activities to raise awareness and build disaster resilience among Capizeños, on July 1. The event commenced with a solemn mass at the Roxas City Cathedral, followed by a motorcade, and concluded with a culminating program at Esla, Barangay Lanot, Roxas City.
Among the key activities held were the distribution of doxycycline, “Go Bag Guru” session, and public education on avoiding flood-borne diseases and risks.
In line with this year’s theme, the PHO also intensified disaster readiness at the local level by partnering with local government units (LGUs) and local health facilities to strengthen emergency response capacity.
Seventeen government and private hospitals across the province received CAMPOLAS PLUS kits — emergency health supply kits packed with essential medicines and first-aid items. Each kit includes cotrimoxazole, amoxicillin, mefenamic acid, paracetamol, oral rehydration salts (ORS), lagundi syrup, vitamin A, and topical ointments, ensuring medical access in times of disaster or emergency.
PHO said the distribution of these kits is a crucial step toward enhancing local health resilience, particularly in areas most vulnerable to natural calamities.
It encouraged every citizen to take part in disaster preparedness efforts, echoing the national call: “Be a KUMIKILOS Champion—Kayang Umaksiyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan para sa Ligtas na Capiz!”
