CAPIZ — The newly constructed provincial capitol of Capiz came alive with cultural performances as it hosted the official opening of “Capiztahan,” the province’s longest-running festival, on Monday, April 13.
The annual celebration, graced by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, marks the founding anniversary of Capiz’s civil government while showcasing the province’s rich cultural heritage.
The opening ceremony highlighted unity and pride among Capisnons, gathering provincial officials, municipal leaders, government employees, and representatives from various agencies.
Festivities began with the ceremonial raising of the Philippine flag alongside the flags of the Province of Capiz, the City of Roxas, and its 16 municipalities—symbolizing solidarity across the province.
Adding significance to the event was the presence of former governors Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras, Esteban Evan “Dodoy” Contreras Sr., and Vicente Bermejo, whose attendance underscored their continued support for the province’s cultural initiatives.
The launch of Capiztahan 2026 signals the start of a series of activities organized by the provincial government, including cultural showcases, parades, concerts, and a seafood festival—highlighting Capiz’s identity as the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines.”
The month-long celebration is expected to draw both locals and tourists, offering a vibrant display of the province’s traditions, history, and talents./PN
