ROXAS City – The province of Capiz launched the Visayan leg of “Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino,” or the Filipino Food Month during the Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Day celebration in this capital city.

Department of Agriculture (DA) regional executive director Remelyn Recoter said the Filipino Food Month celebration is pursuant to Proclamation No. 469 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in April last year.

“Our National Commission for Culture and the Arts is here for the preservation of our own lutong pinoy,” she said on Thursday.

Recoter noted the Filipino Food Month, with a theme “Ang Sarap! Piyesta ng Pagkaing Pilipino,” seeks to ensure the transfer of the culinary tradition to future generations.

“This initiative aims to appreciate, preserve and promote indigenous food cuisines and culinary traditions of every province,” she said.

Western Visayas has a long list of indigenous food cuisines that reflect the peoples’ ingenuity and culture including Iloilo’s kadios-baboy-langka or KBL and Aklan’s hinubaran nga manok and ginat-an nga tambo. (With a report from DA Western Visayas/PN)
