CAPIZ – Students of Sapian National High School in Sapian town gained valuable skills in technology and innovation through a Basic Robotics and Automation Training, held as part of the school’s Science Camp in celebration of 2025 Science Month.
The training was facilitated by the Department of Science and Technology Region 6 – Capiz Provincial S&T Office (DOST VI-Capiz PSTO) in partnership with the Philippine Science High School Western Visayas (PSHS-WVC). It introduced students to fundamental concepts in automation and robotics, helping them understand how these technologies impact daily life and modern industries.
Through interactive discussions and hands-on demonstrations, participants explored practical applications of technology and were encouraged to appreciate the role of science in addressing real-world problems.
Jesiah B. Aguilar of PSHS-WVC led a session on automation, demonstrating the use of Arduino through tinkerCAD, a free, browser-based program for creating 3D models, electronic circuits, and block-based code. Students learned how these tools could be applied in practical and educational projects.
Meanwhile, Gerald V. Salazar, also from PSHS-WVC, introduced the students to mBots, educational robot kits designed to teach programming, electronics, and robotics. The hands-on activities allowed students to see how robots can be programmed to perform tasks, inspiring curiosity and creative problem-solving.
The training aimed not only to teach technical skills but also to foster critical thinking and creativity. Many students were motivated to imagine how robotics and automation could address challenges in their communities, with some expressing interest in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
