ILOILO City – Response teams across Western Visayas have been placed on alert for possible deployment to Davao Oriental following the powerful 7.4 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on Friday morning, October 10.

According to Tina Ilustre Mayor, spokesperson of the Office of the Civil Defense Region 6 (OCD-6), Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) chairperson and OCD-6 director Raul Fernandez has directed an inventory of available assets and personnel in the region in preparation for potential assistance to affected local government units (LGUs).

“In case the affected areas request support, we want to ensure that our response teams are ready for deployment,” Mayor said.

In Western Visayas, the Province of Antique and the Municipality of Pavia in Iloilo have teams trained in Collapse Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) operations, while Iloilo City has an available medical response team that can be mobilized if needed.

Meanwhile, OCD-6 confirmed that no damage was recorded in the region from the tremor that was felt early Friday.
