CAPIZ – This province, including its capital Roxas City, is commemorating President Manuel A. Roxas Day on Good Friday, April 18, to honor the former president’s legacy.
Republic Act No. 9217 declared April 15 as President Manuel A. Roxas Day and assigning the nearest Friday to April 15 as a special non-working holiday to commemorate the death anniversary of the late President Roxas.
In an advisory, the provincial government said that based on the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Opinion No. 127, Series of 2022, local government units are not clothed with the power to declare local holidays in their jurisdiction.
Hence, President Manuel A. Roxas Day will be observed in the City of Roxas on April 18, 2025 being the nearest Friday as provided for by said law.
“Ginapahanumdom ang tanan nga suno sa DILG Opinion No. 127, Series of 2022, wala sang awtoridad ang gobyerno probinsyal sang Capiz sa idalom sang Republic Act No. 7160 (Local Government Code) nga magdeklarar nga ang Abril 11 ukon bisan ano pa nga petsa bilang holiday,” read part of the advisory./PN
