CAPIZ — The vibrant spirit of Christmas illuminated Capiz as the highly anticipated Paskwa sang Maragtas: Capiz Christmas Festival officially opened on December 1, at the New Capiz Provincial Capitol in Pueblo de Panay.
This grand celebration marked a historic milestone as it was the first time the Capitol hosted a full-scale Christmas showcase, immersing thousands of attendees in the warmth and wonder of the holiday season.
The festivities commenced with simultaneous lighting ceremonies across the province’s towns, unveiling the Maragtas Christmas Villages that signaled the beginning of a month-long celebration filled with community pride, shared joy, and festive cheer.
Drawing the biggest applause of the evening was the region’s inaugural projection mapping showcase, a breathtaking visual spectacle cast onto the Capitol’s impressive 140-meter façade. The innovative presentation transformed the building into a moving canvas that told the unique Capisnon Christmas story—celebrating gratitude, resilience, and the enduring spirit of generosity that binds the community.
As the visual narrative unfolded, it stirred emotions of faith, hope, and love—the core of the Christmas celebration. The show concluded with a dazzling fireworks display that lit up the Pueblo de Panay skyline, prompting cheers from the crowd.
The program also featured captivating performances from academic institutions and local cultural groups. Holiday melodies filled the air through the voices of the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC) Chorale, Capiz State University (CapSU) Chorale, Filamer Christian University (FCU) Chorale, and Capiz National High School (CNHS) Chorale. Meanwhile, dynamic dance performances by the FCU Silak Dance Company, CPC Sarayawan Dance Company, CapSU Main Dance Troupe, and Tanque National High School Rondalla added to the evening’s artistic flair.
Capisnon singers Maybelle Villan and Robert Tryke Castro delighted spectators with outstanding numbers, followed by stellar performances from renowned artists Arnel Heremias and Christian Dale Apolinario.
Families and children enjoyed traditional Capisnon games such as kádang, takíng, jackstone, tumbang preso, Chinese garter, and jumping rope. The lively atmosphere was complemented by food stalls offering street favorites, native delicacies, and refreshing beverages.
Keeping the festive momentum alive, local favorites Cali Band and Playbac Band delivered live musical sets, followed by an after-show party headlined by DJ Dann So Chan and MC Ray Domingo. A special guest appearance by singer-actress Lindsay Custodio thrilled fans, especially longtime Ang TV followers.
The grand opening set an exhilarating tone for a festive December in Capiz, with a full calendar of activities lined up throughout the month.
