JORDAN, Guimaras – Deaths in the island province of Guimaras increased by 55.45 percent in the second quarter of 2021 with Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease (62 cases) and Severe Community Acquired Pneumonia (61 cases) as the leading causes, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.
Most of the dead were males.
Cerebrovascular Accident Probably Hemorrhage that claimed the lives mostly of males than females had a larger gender gap of 25.49 percentage points.
Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia had the least gender gap of 8.20 percentage points among the males and female fatalities.
Deaths increased each month of the second quarter relative to the same quarter a year ago recorded at 31.51 percent for April, 62.12 percent for May, and 71.60 percent for June.
There were 342 deaths recorded, higher than the 220 registered in the same quarter last year.
“Data also revealed that, there were more males who died than females in the second quarter of both years,” Provincial Statistical Officer Nelida Losare said.
“For the 2020’s second quarter, there were 138 male and 82 female fatalities, while for 2021’s second quarter, there were 212 wherein 61.99 percen t were males and 130 or 31.08 percent were females,” Losare added.
For 2021 Q2, the recorded sex ratio is at 163 males per 100 female deaths, which means that male fatalities are higher by around 82 cases or 23.98 percent more than females.
“Comparing death occurrences for Q2 2020 and 2021, the registered deaths for all the five municipalities increased,” Losare said.
Jordan recorded the most fatalities in both years: 90 in 2020 Q2 and 118 deaths in 2021 Q2, while Buenavista registered 50 and 90 deaths in the same reference quarters, respectively.
“Nueva Valencia registered deaths with 41 in 2020 Q2 to 77 Q2 of the current year, while San Lorenzo got 21 and 29 deceased in the same reference quarters,” Losare said.
“Sibunag municipality registered the least expiries for both years, 18 deceases in 2020, and 28 in 202,” Losare added./PN
