ILOILO City – A carpenter charged with raping a minor was finally arrested yesterday in Barangay Baybay Norte, Miag-ao, Iloilo after six years of hiding.

Marcelino Muzones, 37, was taken to the municipal police station lockup cell. Judge Domingo Diamante of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 67 issued his arrest warrant for violation of Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act).

According to Senior Inspector Cyril Octavio, Miag-ao police chief, the alleged rape happened in 2010 and the complainant was then 14 years old.
Muzones was caught around 10 a.m. in his house.

Police said Muzones insisted there was no rape because their sexual act was consensual.

If the suspect were to be believed, the complainant was a commercial sex worker.

“The complainant was often seen in the company of others binge drinking in karaoke bars,” Octavio said.
The court did not grant Muzones bail./PN
