Elite police force to run after carnappers

The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has created the Anti-Carnapping Team (ACT), an elite force trained to catch those fond of stealing motor vehicles. ACT belongs to the Traffic Investigation Enforcement Unit (TIEU) of the ICPO. It is headed by Chief Inspector Rhea Santos. According to ICPO director, Senior Superintendent Ruperto Floro, ACT is composed of police personnel from different police stations. “If we have cases of carnapping, our ACT will work on the case,” said Floro. Recently, ACT members underwent a seminar on carnapping laws. Also in attendance were police personnel from different police stations. Held at the ICPO conference room, the seminar’s speaker was from the Regional Highway Patrol – Senior Police Officer 2 Jun Batilo. All members were taught about traffic safety and anti-carnapping laws, specifically Republic Act (RA) 4136, road signs and circulars related to traffic safety and anti-carnapping. RA 4136 is a compilation of laws relative to land transportation and traffic rules, including the registration and operation of motor vehicles and the licensing of owners, dealers, conductors, and drivers./PN

Teenager is Arevalo’s No. 17 most wanted

BY GLENDA SOLOGASTOA   ILOILO City – A young woman was Arevalo district’s No. 17 most wanted person. Ma. Lourdes Dionero faces a robbery charge. She was accused last year when she was only 17 years old. She is now 18. Yesterday around 11:30 a.m., Dionero was arrested in Zone 10, Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo. Dionero was one of four persons charged with robbing a house in Oton, Iloilo last year, according to Inspector Tranquilino Querubin. Her accomplices included her live-in partner and a taxi driver. The live-in partner and taxi driver were arrested much earlier than Dionero. The warrant of arrest against Dionero was issued by Judge Adriano Savillo of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 30. The bail bond was pegged at P100,000. As of this writing, it was unclear if Dionero was able to bail herself out./PN

Cops corner theft suspect

BY RUBY P. SILUBRICO   ILOILO City – After more than a year of hiding from the police, a 21-year-old theft suspect was finally arrested in Barangay Rizal Pala-Pala, City Proper. Joel Tiangchon was detained at Police Station 1 following his arrest. Judge Guilljie Delfin-Lim of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 22 issued the suspect’s arrest warrant. Tiangchon had been arrested several times in the past also for theft, said Chief Inspector Alexander Rosales, Police Station 1 chief. Tiangchon tried to flee from the cops serving his arrest warrant but failed. Judge Lim pegged Tiangchon’s bail bond at P22,000 for his temporary liberty. It was unclear as of this writing if the suspect was able to bail himself out./PN
