Reckless imprudence charges vs SUV driver

ILOILO City – Cases have been filed against the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) whose collision with an ambulance in Mandurriao district resulted in the death of a couple.

Gilbert Ray Saclauso was charged with reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property, physical injuries and two counts homicide before the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Saclauso, 37, of Barangay San Antonio, San Miguel, Iloilo drove the Chevrolet TrailBlazer that crashed against the ambulance of the local government of San Miguel on March 22 in Barangay Hibao-an Norte, Mandurriao.

Ramon Sampani and wife Rosalyn, who were on board the ambulance, were killed. Two other people in the ambulance were injured. Saclauso was hurt as well.

Saclauso was charged on the same day. But after the filing of the cases the driver complained of abdominal and chest pains, and was taken to the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC) in Jaro.

Police officers were guarding him while confined.

Sampani was being ferried to a hospital in the city for a scheduled dialysis treatment at the time of the crash at around 4 a.m.

He was pronounced dead at the WVSUMC in Jaro and Rosalyn, at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao.

Others injured were ambulance driver Efrain de Guzman and Eddie Vera, 51, of San Miguel Street, San Miguel./PN
