AKLAN – The Godofredo P. Ramos Airport, also known as the Caticlan Airport, is now open to direct flights from Taipei, Taiwan.

An inaugural flight from Taipei Taoyuan, Taiwan, arrived in the northern town of Malay, Aklan, on Dec. 26, 2022.

Taipei-Caticlan flight (RW258) landed at 4:30 p.m. carrying 160 passengers and 10 crew members onboard Royal Air Philippines’ A320 aircraft.

A water cannon salute greeted the inaugural flight upon touchdown.

In early December of 2022, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the deployment of personnel to the Caticlan Airport.

The inaugural flight from Caticlan to Taipei also marked the first time for the BI to launch its operations at the Caticlan Airport.

The international air service is expected to enhance Boracay tourism.

Meanwhile, the provincial board of Aklan opposed international flights at Caticlan Airport, saying these would hurt businesses relying on domestic and regional passengers at the Kalibo International Airport./PN
