ILOILO City – CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights cruised to a 97-70 victory over Mandurriao National High School in the start of the Chooks-to-Go SM National Basketball Training Centre (NBTC)-Iloilo leg quarterfinals on Tuesday at the Western Institute of Technology STS Gym.

Lester Valn Paraico found his outside finesse once again as he finished with 23 points, while Jay Loquiano added 16 markers to give the Silver Knights a 3-1 record.

Opposed to Paraico’s finesse, the game was however not a flawless one as multiple players from the both teams engaged in a ‘basketbrawl’ with just five minutes left, and with the clear victory on the Knight’s hands already.

As a result of the match melee, eight of Mandurriao’s players were ejected and slapped with one-game suspension and an automatic game forfeiture of their team in the scheduled quarterfinals matchup against St. Roberts International Academy Panda Rockets today.

Defending champions Santa Clarita International School Primes moved closer to sealing a semifinals spot after a 92-80 victory over University of San Agustin. Kimrey Servano tallied 23 points, while Jemar Cepriano added 18 markers for the Primes.

Meanwhile, last year’s runner up, the Panda Rockets, handed Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix its first taste of defeat to the tune of 90-75. Irele Galas finished with 22 points, while Oscar Roy Jacinto contributed 16 markers for the winning team.

Sun Yat Sen High School, on the other hand, pulled off a 55-51 victory over Ateneo de Iloilo. Kein Apitong paved the way with 15 points, while Arvin Tabares added 14 markers for the victors.

In the combined Group A and D standings, the Primes were on top with a 4-0 slate, followed by San Agustin and Sun Yat Sen High School sharing a 3-1 record, while Ateneo de Iloilo went 2-2.

Meanwhile, in the combined Group B and C standings, the Panda Rockets sealed the no.1 seed with a perfect record (5-0), followed by Red Phoenix (4-1), Silver Knights (3-1) and Mandurriao (1-5).

The quarterfinals schedule for today will be the Red Phoenix against Silver Knights, the Primes against Ateneo de Iloilo and San Agustin facing Sun Yat Sen.

The remaining games before the semifinals will begin at 9 a.m./PN
