MANILA – CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights and University of San Agustin Golden Eagles made their way to the semifinals after decidedly overcoming their respective quarterfinals foes in the 2017 Bingawan Foundation Cup – Regional High School Basketball.
CenterPhil defeated Ateneo de Iloilo Blue Dragons, 89-59, on Sunday at the gym in Bingawan, Iloilo, while San Agustin clinched the last semifinals slot after beating Hercor College Junior Jaguars, 74-66.
CenterPhil, which aim to recover from their runner-up finish in the Iloilo City Mayor’s Cup last month, got the leading 19 points from Lester Valn Paraico, and 18 and 16 from Charles Sindol and Patrick Gain, respectively.
The Silver Knights imposed their dominance from start to finish courtesy of hot shooting by Sindol and Gain. This continued in the second half en route to building its largest lead — 30 points — on back-to-back triples by Paraico.
Meanwhile Luin Sanchez led the way with 30 points for San Agustin.
Six-foot Jeron Deocampo also showed his way with 18 points for San Agustin, which relied on its tight defense to dominate Hercor.
Santa Clarita International High School Primes and St. Roberts Academy Panda Rockets earned outright semifinals positions after finishing on top of brackets A and B, respectively.
Knockout semifinals action was scheduled on June 17, with Santa Clarita taking on San Agustin at 2 p.m. and St. Roberts battling CenterPhil at 3:30 p.m. The championship round will be on June 18./PN
