Ceres drivers, conductors hold strike, demand return of P56 allowance

BACOLOD City — About 20 drivers and conductors of Ceres bus operated by Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI) mounted a strike in the in Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Jan. 21.

The rallyists demanded to the VTI management the return of P56 allowance per round trip (Bacolod to Victorias route vice versa) by giving them only 50 percent of the said amount.

They also asked for transparency in the percentage of every trip they have as well an explanation on  P30-percent deduction from their vacation leave incentive.

Likewise, they also asked why they were given six days bonus.

Jade Seballos, Media Relations Officer of VTI confirmed that despite the drivers and conductors conducted the strike, the operation of the bus still continue because of the augmentation of the drivers and conductors from other Ceres bus terminal  to ensure that the riding public will not be affected of the strike.

The company’s employees union officers and the branch manager of terminal have met with the rallyists to listen their concerns, she added.

Seballos stressed that the drivers and the conductors shall not immediately hold the strike. The proper way they have done supposedly is to inform the employees union officers, who are the ones to bring their concerns to the management, she explained.

Seballos said it is necessary that both parties will conduct a dialogue in order to settle the problems.
