MANILA – Ceres-Negros Football Club will be eyeing for a crucial win against JP Voltes Marikina Football Club in the 2017 Philippines Football League today at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The Negros Occidental-based team is currently at third place in the standings with 42 points on 13 wins, three draws and four losses, while JP Voltes is at sixth with 28 points, on eight wins, four draws and 11 losses.
Ceres-Negros only needs four points from the remaining eight games to qualify for the Finals Series while JP Voltes needs to win all their games and hope that Global Cebu Football Club collapses to make it to the final four.
The matchup has been interesting for both squads with JP Voltes having the number of Ceres-Negros in their first two encounters this season — a 2-1 victory and a 2-2 deadlock.
“Marikina is a good team. They are one of the strongest here in PFL,” said Ceres-Negros team manager Dennis Dinsay. “Hopefully we can play better against them and get the three points.”
Both teams are also coming off losses with Ceres-Negros being stunned by Stallion-Laguna Football Club, 2-0, on Wednesday, and JP Voltes losing via default to Davao Aguilas.
“We are going home to Bacolod. We have to give something to our crowd so the players should change their attitude,” said Ceres-Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic. “Our next few games is a must win for us.”
Unlike in their match against Stallion-Laguna, Ceres-Negros will have added boost against JP Voltes with the return of Jose Porteria, Manuel Herrera, Fernando Rodriguez, and Bienvenido Marañon from suspension.
However, the Negrense team still will not have a full roster. Stephan Schröck and Kevin Ingreso will be serving suspension this time for accumulated penalty cards.
