BACOLOD City – Ceres Negros dumped Ilocos United 5-0 in their Philippines Football League match on Saturday night at the Panaad Park and Stadium.

The victory pushed Ceres to third place with 35 points – just 9 points behind league leader Meralco Manila.

Four busmen landed on the score sheet, with Stephan Schrock getting a brace, as the Negros Occidental-based squad completed its mastery of Ilocos at their home court.

Schrock fired two goals while Bienvenido Marañon, Fernando Rodriguez and Carli de Murga added a conversion each for Ceres.

Marañon fired to the far post after catching a loose ball in the box in the fifth minute for 1-0.

Rodriguez doubled the lead 2-0 in the 19th minute when he volleyed in a deflected ball in front of goal.

De Murga scored just before the hour mark when a header off a corner beat Ilocos United goalkeeper Baba Sampana. The lead went up to 4-0 at the half with Schrock’s deep cross conversion.

Ilocos United tightened its defense in the second half and had a good chance from Chima Uzoka in the 56th but his shot was deflected.

In the 73rd minute, Ceres widened the lead further after Schrock’s well-timed run from Marañon’s delivery resulted to the Filipino rounding the Ilocos United goalkeeper for their fifth goal.

“For me the most important was the team played excellent,” said Ceres mentor Risto Vidakovic. “And I can say that we have style, we have the possession and, for me, that’s more important than the points.”

The busmen will have the chance to move up to first place with still five games in their schedule. (Adrian Stewart Co, with a report from ceresfootball.com/PN)
