Chamber: Manila’s hosting of Boao Forum prelude to ‘Belt and Road’ meet in Beijing

MANILA – A perfect prelude to Manila’s participation in the “Belt and Road” Forum.

That’s how Henry Lim Bon Liong, president of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc., described Manila’s hosting of the Boao Economic Forum.

President Rodrigo Duterte is headed to China later this month for the “Belt and Road” Forum.

According to Lim, while heads of state gather in Beijing for the high-level meeting on reviving the Silk Road, locally, businessmen are also finding ways to improve trade ties between China and the Philippines.

“After the Boao Forum, President Duterte will be going to China for the Belt and Road initiative and so far, the Belt and Road initiative has already made a lot of headways in other countries,” he said.

“The Boao Forum will further strengthen whatever would be the outcome of Belt and Road initiative with President Duterte there. I think there will be a lot of signings of contracts. But here, there is going to be also business matching for the 300 businessmen that are coming in today. And tomorrow will be the start of the forum and we expect that this will result to very positive investment for the Chinese here in the Philippines,” he added.

The second “Belt and Road” Forum will be held in Beijing from April 25 to 27. (ABS-CBN News)
