MANILA — Nxled Chameleons continued their strong early run in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, asserting their depth and composure in a convincing 25-18, 28-26, 25-18 sweep of Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers on Saturday night at the Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal.
Lyann de Guzman anchored the Chameleons’ balanced attack, finishing with 13 points on 12 attacks and one service ace to earn Player of the Game honors as Nxled improved to an unblemished 2-0 record.
“Actually, sa simula ng game, nawawala kami sa sistema, kaya nire-remind kami ni coach to just stick to the system, at ‘yun umaangat ang points namin,” De Guzman said.
Nxled seized control early, dictating the pace in the opening set with disciplined net defense and efficient shot selection. The Chameleons showed poise under pressure in the second frame, weathering a late surge from Capital1 and closing out the extended set behind timely conversions from De Guzman to take a commanding two-set advantage.
Riding that momentum, Nxled pulled away midway through the third set as Myla Pablo sparked a decisive run fueled by crisp transition offense and steady floor coverage. The Chameleons maintained control down the stretch to complete the straight-sets victory.
“Thankful din ako sa mga suporta ng ate ko sa akin, ine-encourage nila ako na pumalo lang at sila ang magco-cover. Itong panalo na ito sa buong team talaga ito,” De Guzman added.
In the other match, Galeries Tower Highrisers snapped a long winless spell after edging ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in a hard-fought five-setter, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 15-10.
Negrense hitter Erika Deloria led the Highrisers with 18 points, matching Gayle Pascual’s output as Galeries Tower secured its first PVL victory in 345 days.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas chipped in 11 points, Jean Asis added 10 markers — including crucial hits in the deciding set — while Julia Coronel steered the offense and earned Player of the Game honors with 16 excellent sets and eight points./PN
