ILOILO City – On Independence Day, a La Paz district resident who yielded an unlicensed firearm and plastic packs of shabu was detained.
Charlie Gubatanga, 31, of Barangay Ticud was arrested in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao after evading a checkpoint in Barangay Magsaysay, La Paz around 12:10 a.m., said Senior Inspector Rey Sumagaysay, La Paz police chief.
Officers at the checkpoint flagged him down but Gubatanga, who was driving a motorcycle, ignored them, Sumagaysay said.
Police chased him. Upon arrest, a .45-caliber pistol with six bullets and two plastic packs of shabu were seized from him.
Detained at La Paz police station, Gubatanga was facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
