City gov’t creates Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit

ILOILO City – A traffic management unit will be created to better address the growing concern particularly the road traffic safety in city streets.

Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday issued Executive Order No. 152, Series of 2023, creating the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit (ICTMU) for the efficient and effective implementation of all traffic-related laws, ordinances and management in the city.

“Road and traffic-related incidents have become rampant in the streets of Iloilo City that breed crimes, create traffic hazards and endanger the public,” read part of the EO.

The ICTMU will be headed by City Administrator Melchor Tan as the chairperson while the vice chairperson would be retired Police Col. Uldarico Garbanzos, the former director of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).

The traffic management unit would be under the direct supervision of the city mayor.

Among the ICTMU’s functions is to augment and assist in the management of traffic enforcers and other deputized force multipliers in the implementation of traffic-related ordinances and laws.

It further enjoins all personnel and assigned in Traffic Investigation Unit and Mobile Patrol Unit of ICPO for efficient enforcement of traffic-related ordinances and laws

The ICTMU would also assist in the supervision of personnel under the Traffic Management Division of the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office headed by Jeck Conlu./PN
