
ILOILO – This Friday morning a new set of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation officials for the province of Iloilo will be elected.
The new president will take over Ma. Angelica Bianca B. Requinto-Espinosa of Estancia as ex-officio member and president of Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan (PPSK)-Iloilo.
Today’s election at Iloilo National High School starts at 8 a.m. and will be spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Iloilo, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Secretariat.
Panay News learned from DILG-Iloilo that an orientation of the election process will be held before the actual voting. An advisory was released to all SK chairpersons of the 43 municipalities and Passi City prior.
SK chairpersons will first nominate candidates for SK Federation president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, auditor, public relations office and sergeant-at-arms.
The candidate with the highest votes from the secret ballots will be proclaimed. DILG-Iloilo invited Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. to administer the oath of winners.
As of this writing, no one has openly declared a candidacy, but based on information Panay News gathered, one SK chairperson from the 5th District is interested in running and will likely be unopposed after gaining the support of the majority of the representatives in the province.
Requinto-Espinosa Delivers Valedictory Address
During the 70th regular session of the 14th SP on Tuesday, Nov. 21, Requinto-Espinosa delivered her valedictory address.
She thanked Defensor Jr., the SP headed by Vice Gov. Christine Garin, former Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., and 5th District’s Cong. Raul “Boboy” Tupas for helping her fulfill her job as SK Federation president.
“Thank you for the incredible support extended to me throughout my term, especially as the youngest member of the esteemed body. Your willingness to share insights and guide me to the intricacies of public service has been instrumental to my growth as a legislator,” said Requinto-Espinosa.
She added that representing the province’s youth is an honor and a responsibility, and being the youth’s voice in the SP has been a privilege.
