ILOILO City – The city government has been qualified for the national validation of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) 2017 by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
It passed the regional validation for SGLG 2017 conducted in May by DILG-6 validators.
According to Iloilo City DILG head Atty. Ferdinand Panes, inclusion in the “clean list” means all the documents submitted during the regional validation were unquestionable.
“A lot of indicators were consider during the regional validation and among these were if the local government unit created the Peace and Order Public Safety (POPS) Plan and if the local government was able to allocate funds for peace and order; so we have accomplished all these that is why we were included in the clean list,” said Panes.
Two national validators are set to visit Iloilo City Hall for the last round of validation on Aug. 15.
“They will re-validate the validation made by the regional team. I think they will not go through with the documents anymore, instead they will check if our building has space for persons with disabilities (PWDs), if we are compliant with Accessibility Law, if we are practicing the full disclosure policy and if we are posting financial documents in conspicuous places,” said Panes.
The SGLG award is given by the DILG acknowledging the best performing local government units.
Local governments should pass all the core areas and at least one essential area to be an awardee.
The core areas include Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, and Peace and Order, while the essential areas are Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Protection, and Tourism, Arts and Culture.
“We are confident that Iloilo City government will once again bag the SGLG for this year,” Panes said. Iloilo City government was an awardee of SGLG in 2016. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
