ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas issued two executive orders to foster the Christmas spirit and enliven the festive mood in this metropolis despite the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Treñas released Executive Order No. 137 creating a Committee on Christmas Lanterns Display 2020-2021.

“The Yuletide season is forthcoming so we installed Christmas lanterns on major streets,” he said.

These parols, he said, symbolize the victory of light over darkness and the Ilonggos’ hope and goodwill during the Christmas season.

“May these parols serve as a reminder that despite this pandemic, there is still hope for all of us,” said Treñas.

The city mayor also issued EO No. 141 which designates persons in-charge for the beautification and decoration of public plazas for Christmas 2020.

“Like everything else this year, Christmas 2020 will likely look very different from what we’re used to,” he said.

Despite this, Treñas said these initiatives could help bring much needed cheer and hope.

According to the EO, the lighting of the public plazas shall be simultaneously done on Nov. 15. (With a report from PIA/PN)
