ILOILO City – The city government will beautify the metropolis with murals, artworks painted or applied directly on walls or other permanent surfaces.

The first batch of these murals would be painted in Barangay Sambag, Jaro district.

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, once done the Sambag murals would be inaugurated on Oct. 24.

After Barangay Sambag, the next walls to be painted are those along Muelle Loney Street in the City Proper.

Sa Muelley Loney pila ka buildings (owners) nagsugot nga pintahan ta,” said Treñas.

Aside from walls, the city mayor said, overpasses and even posts would be painted, too.

Treñas particularly wanted to see local war heroes such as Teresa Magbanua, General Martin Delgado and General Macario Peralta in the murals.

“Para nga madumduman sang mga Ilonggo ang mga heroes naton,” he explained.

Fine Arts students of the University of San Agustin and Iloilo Science and Technology University would be tapped for the murals.

“Gusto naton mga local artists ang maobra,” said Treñas.

But he also appealed for volunteer artists.

Davies Paints would provide the paints.

To preserve the murals and protect them from vandals, the city mayor said, barangay officials and residents would be enlisted to take care of them./PN
