City-owned buses must be ‘affordable’

BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia wants to make “affordable” the rates of the city government-owned buses.

“We will establish what will be the rates through an ordinance [so that] the buses will be more affordable and accessible to visitors,” Leonardia said.

With conventions being held almost regularly in Bacolod, the mayor said visitors can use the city-owned buses for a tour.

The rates of the buses must be lower compared to that offered by operators of regular buses in the city, he added.

The city government now owns two buses – a 55-seater and a 66-seater.

The 55-seater bus worth P3.6 million is a donation of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies (YGBC), the company that operates the Ceres Liner.

The 66-seater bus, on the other hand, was refurbished by the same company.

The turnover of the buses was held on Thursday at the Bacolod City Government Center.

YGBC business diversification manager Casey Olive Yanson, assistant chief finance officer Jerica Leanne Ramos and security, fuel, and public relations head Miloy Seva attended the ceremony.

The city government, meanwhile, was represented by Leonardia and councilors Cindy Rojas, Em Ang, Elmer Sy, and Bartolome Orola./PN
