City to implement road-clearing ops

BACOLOD City – This city mulls reclaiming the sidewalks from illegally parked vehicles and ambulant vendors.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said his office will coordinate with the Sangguniang Panlungsod to clear Bacolod’s downtown area.

He noticed that public utility jeepneys are avoiding road obstructions such as vending structures and parked vehicles.

“I will talk with the city council with regards to road clearing; we will entertain the proposal of having park-and-pay areas,” the mayor said, noting that some areas would entirely prohibit parking.

Meanwhile, Benitez said that they are now finalizing preparations to kick off the implementation of underground cabling.

“This is a joint venture; the private firm will put up the money, and the city will only have to share,” Benitez emphasized.

Once the agreement is signed, he added, the underground cabling will start on Lacson Street./PN
