BACOLOD City – The production of the city’s contractor for slaughtering animals, the AVM Bernardo Slaughterhouse, has increased 20 percent this year, claimed plant manager Glorydee Cometa.
Cometa attributed the increase to the reactivation of Task Force Botagoy, which monitors and seizes illegally slaughtered animals in the city.
However, Cometa failed to show media members the figures to compare the production in 2016 and 2017.
By the end of the month, Cometa said they are expecting higher production at 14,000 heads because of the holiday demand.
Usually, the slaughterhouse produces about 10,000 to 11,000 heads per month, Cometa added.
The slaughterhouse produces more slaughtered hogs than large animals like cattle, she stressed.
Moreover, Cometa said their request for the establishment of a chicken line is pending at city hall.
If the request is approved, their production is expected to increase, she added./PN
