BACOLOD City – A college student died while his back rider was injured after their motorcycle was hit from behind by a trooper carrier truck along the national road in Hacienda Balatong, Barangay Bulad, Isabela, Negros Occidental, at around 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 23.
Police identified the fatality as alias “Alog,” a resident of Hacienda Baksay, Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental. His back rider, alias “Bogart,” 21, also from the same area, survived with minor injuries.
The truck driver was identified as alias “Metoy,” 40, a resident of Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City.
Initial investigation by the Isabela Municipal Police Station showed that both vehicles were traveling toward the Isabela town proper when the truck suffered an alleged failure and rear-ended the motorcycle.
The impact threw the back rider off the motorcycle, while the driver became trapped underneath the truck, sustaining severe head injuries.
Responders from the La Castellana Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed both victims to the Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Memorial District Hospital, where the attending physician declared the motorcycle driver dead on arrival.
The truck driver and both vehicles were placed under the custody of the Isabela police station pending further investigation and proper disposition./PN
