AKLAN – Enforcers from the Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO-6) intercepted and impounded an unauthorized passenger van in Nabas, Aklan on Thursday, October 8, as part of sustained anti-colorum operations in the province.
Operatives from the Regional Law Enforcement Section (RLES), led by Chief Jetster T. Mandadero, flagged down the silver van during a random roadside inspection. Upon questioning, all seven passengers onboard admitted that they had paid fares for the trip, confirming the vehicle was operating as an illegal public transport service.
LTO-6 director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II emphasized that commercial transport operators must first secure a valid franchise or Certificate of Public Convenience from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) before taking on fare-paying passengers.
The vehicle was impounded, and the operator faces severe administrative fines and sanctions under Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.
The Aklan interception, meanwhile, brings LTO-6’s total tally of apprehended colorum vehicles across Western Visayas to 198 since January this year./PN
