
KALIBO, Aklan – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) – Aklan has decided to receive certificates of candidacy (COCs) for provincial elective positions in a bigger venue here.
The poll body set the filing of COCs for the May 2022 elections from Oct. 1 to 8, including weekends.
Aklan election supervisor Atty. Roberto Salazar said they plan to hold the off-site COC filing at Aklan Catholic Colleges covered gym in Barangay Andagao.
Comelec is prepared to impose stricter health protocols during the COC filing, he added.
Candidates for elective provincial positions or their authorized representatives are expected to troop to the off-site location with extra precaution due to the coronavirus pandemic.
On the other hand, aspirants for elective posts in the municipal level should file their COCs before their local Comelec offices except for aspirants in the town of New Washington.
The cafeteria of Aklan State University – New Washington campus is the designated venue after the Office of the Election Officer requested for transfer of venue for the filing of COCs in New Washington.
The registration period for the 2022 elections will also end on Sept. 30, 2021. Comelec offices are open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays and up to 5 p.m. on Saturdays after the province of Aklan was placed under general community quarantine on Sept. 8.
Salazar expects more applications for transferees and new voters in the remaining days before the Sept. 30 deadline./PN
